Italy is a country that offers tourists infinite opportunities both for sites of natural interest and for the artistic heritage that preserves over 5,000 years of history, artifacts and sites.
We start from the north west, the Valle d'Aosta, a narrow valley surrounded by the highest mountains of the "Stivale": the Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Monte Rosa and Cervino are the most famous peaks as well as the location of Courmayeur the Thuille, Cervinia and Gressoney.
Then Aosta offers culture and history, with Roman remains, Saint Vincent and its Casino and the whole series of castles dominating the valley, such as Fenis. Piedmont offers Turin, magnificent former capital of Italy, but also regions such as the Canavese, the Langhe, the Monferrato and Asti zone. Lombardy has gems such as Vigevano, Pavia, Lodi and Cremona, and the magnificent alpine lakes of Como and Varese, as well as the monumental charm of Milan. The Alps are a great refuge for those seeking a holiday of peace and relax, as in Foppolo, Chiavenna, Bormio and Santa Caterina. The mountains of Trentino then take the color of pale Dolomites, with Madonna di Campiglio overlooking the Brenta, the Dolomites of Val Gardena, while the big massifs Ortles and Adamello silently dominate the narrow valleys.
Veneto includes Dolomites too; Cortina d'Ampezzo, Alleghe, Arabba, offer affordable opportunities if you search a site a bit far from the centre. But if you want culture and history, you can visit Padova, Verona and Lake Garda, Venice, Vicenza and Treviso, with the possibility of a dip into the Adriatic, in Jesolo. Another place to experience is Friuli, with the basilica of Aquileia, Cividale and Udine, Trieste full of charm, without forgetting the regional wines, especially the Collio ones.
From wine to the kitchen, so let's go down in Emilia-Romagna, the best for pasta and eating well. But not only that. Centers like Parma, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna and Rimini are the most comfortable and best visited in Italy, with monumental churches, mosaics and important medieval remains. Then the Adriatic coast with cities like Cervia, Milano Marittima, Cesenatico, Riccione and Cattolica that are now part of the history of tourism.
In Liguria, Genoa offers its sea and its maritime tradition, San Remo its flowers, and the whole coast from Savona, Imperia, from Voltri Rapallo to the Cinque Terre is a series of colorful villages, beaches surrounded by a cobalt blue sea. Next Tuscany, half of the artistic heritage of Europe on its own. Pisa, which is now, with its Leaning Tower, the symbol of Italy in the world; the Apune Alps with marble from Carrara, Lucca and Pistoia, Siena with its "Palio" and Piazza del Campo, Florence, more than one trip worthy, hidden treasures, such as San Romualdo, San Rabano and San Galgano scattered in the beautiful countryside. And then the Tirreno sea with Forte dei Marmi, Punta Ala, Follonica and southern Maremma. For those who love the sea, the Tuscan archipelago, Elba, Giglio, Capraia and Montecristo will leave you breathless!
Back into the Adriatic sea to visit the Marche, with jewels like Urbino, Loreto, Ancona, and then Ascoli with the Sibillini Mountains as background. Then the beautiful Conero with Sirolo and Numana and for those who wish to dive into the clean sea from the rocks. Umbria welcomes you with its green and its medieval villages looking like a small nativity stuck onto the mountains.
Assisi, Spello, Spoleto and Montefalco are must-see, like Perugia, which is easily explorable thanks to
functional escalators. Then Orvieto, with its spectacular cathedral and the well of St. Patrick will definitely enchant you.
