The Trevi Fountain in Rome

The Trevi Fountain is a baroque monument which is located in Rome. For those who visit the "Eternal City", is a very important step and a must-see place also due to its legend.
Anyone who wants to visit Rome and return, must go to the fountain and throw the coins on it. This beautiful fountain was the main character of two famous movies, like La Dolce Vita and a film of Totò.
Better getting there by train: from Termini station with the underground line A, only two stops, getting off at Piazza Barberini. Triton street will take you around the Montecitorio, and turning left on Stamperia street, you get to the Trevi Fountain.

It was designed by Nicola Salvi in 1732 and located on one side of Palazzo Poli. The style is a blend of classical and barocco. Despite the legend linked to the coins is famous throughout the world, no one knows the exact ritual.
Some people are firmly convinced that, throwing two coins, two wishes come true: one to return to Rome, the other to fulfill your own personal desire. Every evening, the coins are removed from the fountain, dried and then donated to charity at the end of the year.
The Trevi Fountain is a marvel of waterfalls and statues and it is placed along the route of ancient aqueducts, built in 18 BC by Agrippa, and starting from the ancient source of Acqua Vergine, located in Trevi, and comes to the baths of Campo Marzio. His position is very strange because it is not located in a large square, but near a building. This monument was commissioned by the Pope Clement XII to the architects Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Pietro da Cortona, but the contract of work went to Nicola Salvi who did not see the end as he died of pneumonia.
The fountain has remained unchanged since 1762 and its main theme is the sea.
It looks like a huge waterfall with a statue of Neptune about 6 feet tall, sculpted by Pietro Bracci, running through a shell shaped carriage, pulled by two winged horses and as many newts. On either side are giant seashells, beautiful mermaids and mythological animals.
